Production
In February 2015, it was announced Michelle Williams had been cast in the film, with Kelly Reichardt directing from a screenplay she wrote.[4] That same month, Kristen Stewart, Laura Dern, James Le Gros, Jared Harris, and Sara Rodier joined the cast, with, Neil Kopp, Vincent Savino producing.[5][6]
Release
Certain Women had its world premiere at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival on January 24, 2016.[7][8] Shortly after, IFC Films acquired U.S distribution rights to the film.[9]Prior to the films premiere at Sundance, Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions acquired international distribution rights to the film.[10] The film went onto screen at the Toronto International Film Festival,[11][12] the New York Film Festival,[13][14] and The Art of Brooklyn Film Festival.[15] The film was released on October 14, 2016.[16]
